West Kalimantan Governor Drs. H. Ria Norsan, M.M., M.H., expressed his appreciation and support for West Kalimantan boxing star and member of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), Daud “Cino” Yordan, as he prepares to return to professional boxing through an international event titled “Back to Champion.”
Norsan conveyed his support during a press conference organized as part of Daud Yordan Promotion’s activities at the DPD RI Building in Jakarta on Thursday (August 20, 2026).
The Governor said Daud’s journey from his hometown in Kayong Utara Regency to the international boxing stage demonstrates that geographical limitations are no barrier for regional talents seeking to achieve success at the highest level.
“The West Kalimantan Provincial Government is proud of Daud Yordan’s consistency, not only in achieving success in the boxing ring but also in carrying out his mandate as a representative of the people in Senayan. His journey is an inspiration and also helps raise West Kalimantan’s profile nationally and internationally,” Norsan said.
According to Norsan, Daud’s achievements carry significance beyond sporting success. His accomplishments also provide an opportunity to introduce West Kalimantan and its potential to wider national and international audiences.
He hopes the momentum will strengthen the connection between sporting achievements, regional promotion, and the development of the creative economy. Daud’s fighting spirit is also expected to inspire young athletes from West Kalimantan to pursue excellence and compete on the global stage.
“Through this momentum, we hope that synergy between sporting achievements, regional promotion, and the strengthening of the creative economy will bring positive impacts to West Kalimantan. Daud Yordan’s fighting spirit should also inspire the emergence of young West Kalimantan athletes who can excel and compete globally,” Norsan said.
DPD RI Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin also expressed his support for Daud’s return to professional boxing. He said achievements by Indonesians who bring pride to the country deserve collective recognition and institutional support.
“The presence of prominent figures and institutional leaders at this event is not merely a form of personal support, but also an expression of institutional commitment. Every Indonesian who brings pride to the country through achievement and public service deserves our support,” Najamudin said.
He explained that the press conference also marked preparations for the international “Back to Champion” event, scheduled to begin on October 10, 2026. The event will mark Daud’s return to the professional boxing ring, where he is expected to face formidable world-class opponents.
Najamudin added that Daud holds a distinctive position as both a professional boxer and a senator representing West Kalimantan in the DPD RI.
“Beyond bringing pride to the nation, his achievements also indirectly strengthen the visibility and strategic role of the regions and regional representative institutions in fostering national optimism,” he added.
Meanwhile, Daud Yordan said his decision to return to professional boxing reflects his commitment to continue contributing through the sport that has shaped his career and life.
Despite now serving as a DPD RI member for the 2024–2029 term, Daud emphasized that his passion for boxing remains an important part of his journey and dedication to the country.
“Boxing is more than a profession for me. It is a way of life and a form of dedication through which I can bring pride to my country. I want to make it clear that I am not finished yet. Through ‘Back to Champion,’ I want to prove that the discipline, hard work, and perseverance of an athlete can continue to go hand in hand with serving the public in parliament,” Daud said.
Daud also expressed his appreciation for the support from DPD RI leaders and fellow members, as well as the Indonesian public, particularly the people of West Kalimantan. He said their support provides additional motivation as he prepares to step back into the ring and give his best for Indonesian boxing.
The “Back to Champion” program is also intended to reintroduce Daud’s career journey while presenting his upcoming international fight agenda.
Daud hopes his return to professional boxing will create broader opportunities for collaboration and support for the development of the sport in Indonesia.
“I hope professional boxing in Indonesia will receive greater support and attention from various stakeholders, so that more outstanding boxers can emerge in the future and bring pride to Indonesia on the world stage,” he concluded.
